Excitement in NorthWest;
Excitement in SouthWest!
Top-ranked Oregon traveled north to Seattle to battle Washington for the I-5 Cup.
The Ducks won the first game Friday night, 5-3, thus winning the I-5 Cup.
But, Saturday, it was upset night in Seattle, as the Washington Huskies beat the #1 Oregon Ducks, 4-1.
The Huskies play cross-state rival WSU next weekend.
Down south, second-ranked ASU also finished their Conference schedule this weekend, with two key games in Bruin Territory.
Friday night, it was only the 4th shutout in the League this year, with ASU winning 3-0.
Saturday night, UCLA hoped to also pull an upset, leading the Ice Devils until 4:35 remaining in the 3rd period,
when ASU tied the game. After no score in overtime, ASU won the game in the shoot-out!

Friday:
The first series of the I-5 Cup got underway in Eugene, Oregon.
The Ducks immediately made a statement, as Sam Cehula notched the first goal, just 45 seconds into the game.
Oregon added 2 more to lead 3-0 at the end of the 1st.
The 2nd period was plagued with penalties.
Oregon managed a power play goal from Cam Forni;
Robbie Maxwell scored the lone Husky goal, making it 4-1 at the end of the 2nd.
UW had numerous chances in the 3rd, but stellar goaltending by Oregon's Wren Arbuthnot kept the door shut.
Shots: Oregon 26,
Washington 24.
Saturday:
The first two periods of the game were hard fought as both teams played aggressively.
The 2nd period ended with a small 3-2 Oregon lead.
In the 3rd, the Ducks opened up, scoring 6 goals en route to a 9-3 I-5 Cup series victory.
Tom Stocklin led the way with 4 goals.
Oregon scored 3 power-play goals, while UW collected 1 on the power play, and 1 short-handed goal.
Shots were 45-33 in favor of the Ducks.
Cal vs Stanford

Thursday:
Cal's home crowd gave them early momentum;
the Bears scored three quick goals to take a 3-0 lead at the end of the 1st.
However, Stanford fought back and tied the game 3-3 going into the second intermission.
Stanford continued into the 3rd, scoring three more goals to gain a 6-3 lead.
Cal got a goal late in the period, but time was not on their side as the clock ran out, giving Stanford the 6-4 win.
Friday:
Cal struck first during a 5-on-3 advantage. Stanford soon tied it up,
but it was all Cal for the rest of the period, as the Bears lit the lamp 4 more times to take a 5-1 lead at the end of one.
The 2nd period saw a rejuvenated Cardinal squad strike first and cut the lead to 5-2;
however, the hometown crowd was quieted once more as Cal scored, making it 6-2 after two.
In the 3rd period, Cal keeper Marc Barker faced an onslaught of Cardinal shots, including several during a 2-man advantage.
Though the Card scored twice, it proved to be too little, too late.
Cal added two of their own, leaving the ice with a hard-fought 8-4 victory.
USC vs UCLA

Thursday:
Playing late Thursday night at UCLA,
the Trojans scored two goals in the first six minutes of the game and again late in the 2nd to take a 3-0 lead.
The two crosstown rivals battled end-to-end most of the 3rd period, with the Bruins getting a goal at the 11-minute mark.
But, strong USC goaltending limited the Bruins to just the one goal and gave the Trojans the Trojans the 3-1 victory.
Friday:
On their home ice, USC scored first on an early power play.
UCLA fought back, scoring twice and taking a 2-1 lead at the end of the 1st period.
In the 2nd, USC got three consecutive goals to go up 4-2.
With 5:53 remaining in the 2nd period, the Bruins' Jay Boffa knocked in his second goal of the game, closing the gap to 4-3.
The 3rd period was filled with exciting end-to-end action, but no scoring,
giving USC the victory and their third consecutive Crosstown Cup.

Friday:
Most of the 1st period was scoreless.
Cam Forni lit the lamp for Oregon in the last two minutes, taking Oregon into the locker room up 1-0.
Halfway through the 2nd, Oregon's Kevin Keeland scored, quickly followed by Forni's second goal,
and the Ducks found themselves in the driver seat with a 3-0 lead.
Cody Paul got the Sun Devils going late in the period to make the game 3-1 at the end of the 2nd.
Intense play dominated the 3rd period, as both teams killed off penalties.
Eric Steinmann pumped in a goal from Sam Cehula, and it looked as if Oregon had the game wrapped up.
ASU would not give, as Paul scored his second of the night, then Bryan Hill scored
to make it a one goal game with 2 minutes left in the 3rd.
ASU pull their goaltender, but the Ducks held on to take the home victory. Final score 4-3.
Saturday:
The Sun Devils struck first, with a goal halfway through the 1st.
From that point on, special teams took control of the game.
Early in the 2nd, ASU popped a power play goal to take a 2-0 lead.
Later in the 2nd, Oregon evened the score with two power play goals.
The Sun Devils took the lead just 12 seconds into the 3rd, and with some stellar goaltending,
held on to a 3-2 victory over Oregon. The victory moves ASU into 1st place

Friday:
OVERTIME and SHOOT-OUT
In a never-say-die battle, the two UC schools went beyond sudden death Friday night, needing a shoot-out to decide the game.
UCLA took a 4-0 lead through the 2nd period.
Cal fought back with four unanswered goals in the 3rd period to tie it 4-4 at the end of regulation.
Even sudden death couldn't decide this battle. Beyond the OT period, UCLA finally won in a shoot-out!
Saturday:
The Saturday night rematch started out similar and close, with UCLA leading 4-2 at the end of two periods.
But, this night, it was the Bruins who scored four unanswered goals in the 3rd period, on their way to a 9-3 victory and series sweep of Cal.

Friday:
The Cougars came out flying in the 1st period and jumped out ahead 3 to 1.
Stanford would not stay down for long, capitalizing on their chances and taking the lead 4 to 3 at the end of two.
Both teams came out strong in the 3rd period, but the Cougars would end up with the victory 7 to 5.
Saturday:
WSU scored right of the bat, then Stanford quickly answered right back.
After that, the Cougars started to roll and would go into the locker room at the end of the 1st, leading 6 to 2.
The 2nd period saw the Cougars jumping all over the Cardinal, taking an 11 to 3 lead at the end of two.
In the 3rd period, the Cardinal played hard, but their short bench would hurt them and the game would end 14 to 3.

Friday:
USC came out hard in the 1st, winning the period 3-1.
Cal fought back in the 2nd, closing the gap to one goal at 4-5.
The momentum carried into the start of the 3rd, where Cal tied it up 6-6.
Tensions arose, and a fight broke out between Cal's Matt Henry and USC's Ryan Farias,
resulting in both being booted from the game.
The Trojans then stepped it up and dominated the end of the 3rd period,
scoring 6 straight goals to win the game 12-6.
Saturday:
Cal Defenseman Natehan DeWindt was disqualified early in the first period,
leaving the Bears 1 defenseman and a total of 9 skaters.
The Trojans wasted no time capitalizing on the short-bench of the Bears
as they scored 3 goals in the 1st period, 6 in the 2nd, and 3 goals in the 3rd period.
USC goalie Phil Adams got a shutout for the night.

Friday:
In a hard fought game in Redwood City, Oregon managed to seize the
momentum in the 3rd period to break a 2-2 draw and take the 6-2
victory. The game was 1-1 after one period and 2-2 after two
periods. However, Oregon's depth ultimately wore down a thin Stanford squad.
Saturday:
Oregon jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st period and widened their margin to 8-0
through two periods against an undermanned Stanford squad.
The teams played to a 1-1 draw in the 3rd period to finish 9-1.
UCLA at Cal

Friday:
UCLA started out strong, dominating with 3 goals in the 1st period.
Cal picked things up and went 2-2 in period 2.
The 3rd period was scoreless, giving the Bruins the 5-2 victory.
Saturday:
In the UC rematch, the Bears came out strong, taking a 7-4 lead at the end of two periods.
In the 3rd period, Cal extended their lead to 10-4. UCLA scored four goals in the last eight minutes, but it wasn't enough.
Bears win the high-scoring contest, 10-8.

Friday:
In the first rematch since the PAC-8 Championship game in February, Oregon squared off against USC in Anaheim.
The Ducks scored on a power play for the 1st period's only goal.
The teams exchanged goals in the 2nd period, giving Oregon a 2-1 lead going into the 3rd.
The Trojans failed to score on a two-man advantage, then immediately had to kill off a penalty of their own.
With 6:42 remaining, Oregon scored to take a two goal lead. The Trojans scored with only 2:05 left to close the contest back to a one goal difference.
But, even with an extra attacker on the ice, the Trojans couldn't tie up the game with another goal. Oregon took advantage of the empty net at 0:21 to seal a 4-2 victory.
Saturday:
After a scoreless 1st period, Oregon put the puck in the net just 0:48 into the 2nd frame.
The game remained up for grabs until only 3 minutes left in the 3rd, when the Ducks scored the third and final goal of the game, putting it out of reach and winning 3-0.
It was a 3-game weekend sweep for Oregon, and a very profitable road trip.
Oregon at UCLA
Oregon Ducks - 9 at UCLA Bruins - 0 - Thursday, October 18, 2007
Thursday:
Oregon returned to the scene of the crime Thursday night . . . returned to the Toyota Sports Center, UCLA's home ice,
and location of the 2007 Championship Tournament, where the Ducks lost the Championship game to USC in overtime for the second year in a row.
Tonight, it was a regular season game against the hosting Bruins. And tonight, there would be no need for overtime.
UCLA proved no match for Oregon, who shut the Bruins out, 9-0.
Sunday, October 14, 2007 scores:
UCLA Bruins - 6 at WSU Cougars - 4
UCLA and WSU played each other close Sunday, with UCLA taking a 1-0 lead at the end of the 1st period.
In the 2nd period, WSU came out hard and took the lead 3-2.
In the 3rd, UCLA took advantage of an early power play to tie the score, then just rolled after that, beating WSU 6-4.
The fast-moving game featured few penalties.
The Bruins got two goals by rookie Scott Partington.

Saturday, October 13, 2007 scores:
UCLA Bruins - 1 at Oregon Ducks - 7
An close 1st period ended with UCLA headed to the locker room leading 1-0, courtesy of the Bruin's Jeff Sanka goal at 6:38.
After the intermission it was all Oregon for the rest of the evening.
The Ducks cranked in 7 unanswered goals to finish the game, 7-1.
Once again, special team's was a key factor as the game totaled a combined 24 penalties.
Oregon went 5-12 on the power play, compared to UCLA going 1-12.
Bruins goaltender Travis Reeves was peppered with 57 shots from Oregon skaters Saturday.

Friday, October 12, 2007 scores:
WSU Cougars - 4 at Oregon Ducks - 12
Oregon came out flying as Cale Meyer knocked in a powerplay goal just 2:10 into the 1st period.
The Ducks continued to dominate, leading 6-0 at the end of the 1st frame.
The 2nd period was controlled by the Cougars, outscoring Oregon 3-1.
But the 3rd period belonged to the Ducks, who wrapped up the contest with five unanswered goals.
Powerplay execution was key for the Ducks, as they ran at 50% for the contest.

Thursday, October 11, 2007 score:
Washington Huskies - 7 at Stanford Cardinal - 6 (OT)
The Huskies traveled to northern California for a big 4-game weekend.
The first game, Thursday night (Oct.11), it was Washington vs Stanford.
With six minutes to go in the game, Stanford led Washington, 6-3.
The Huskies came on strong and scored three quick goals in the remaining minutes to send the game to overtime.
One minute into the overtime period, Washington captain Robbie Maxwell
scored his fourth goal of the game, and the Huskies surpised the
Cardinal with a 7-6 come-from-behind OT win.
Top Teams Battle In Overtime to Open Season
Oregon at ASU

Friday: In a game that lived up to its billing, two of last season's top four teams squared off to open Conference play.
Oregon, who finished 2nd last year (and went into overtime in the championship game), traveled to Tempe for a big weekend against ASU.
In Friday's season opener, Oregon scored first, half way thru the 1st period, and again early in the 2nd period, to take a 2-0 lead.
The Sun Devils, who finished 3rd last season, battled back with four unanswered goals, to lead 4-2.
Then, it was the Ducks who battled back, getting two goals late in the 3rd period to tie the game up, 4-4.
Some key saves by ASU goaltender Cameron Tang kept the Ducks from scoring again, forcing overtime.
Two minutes into the sudden death, ASU captain Bryan Hill shot and scored to give the home team the 5-4 victory!
Saturday: After a scoreless 1st period, Matt Rice scored on a power-play to give ASU the temporary lead. Two minutes later, Oregon's power-play goal by Colton Clay tied the game back up.
One minute later, Matt Sickman popped in a short-handed goal to put ASU in the lead for good. A pair of goals in 3rd period (by Kurt Mithoefer and Ilya Prokopets) secured the game and the Sun Devils sweep over Oregon.

Friday: The Cal Bears traveled up north for an opening set of games against WSU.
Both teams came out strong in the 1st period. WSU took an early lead with two goals by Chris Campanella.
Each team had a goal in the 2nd period to keep the game close.
Cal came out hard in the 3rd period, scoring three goals in the first ten minutes.
WSU scored one with seven to go, but it would not be enough.
The Bears bested the Cougars, 5-4.
Saturday:
The game started out fast again, with both teams playing evenly, and the 1st period ending tied at a goal a piece.
Cal would get the first goal in the 2nd period, but WSU would capitalize on several power plays to go on top, 4-2.
Cal scored four goals in the 3rd period, including two by Aaron Lim, giving him four for the night.
WSU would score a goal at the end of the 3rd, but it would again not be enough. Cal beat WSU by one goal again, 6-5.
