American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA)

www.achahockey.org

The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) began as a men's collegiate hockey league in 1992, and quickly grew to a league of over 150 teams in three men's divisions.  The Women's Division was added in 2000, and currently the association boasts four division (men's Division I, Division II, Division III, and Women's Division) with over 300 teams from across the nation. PAC-8 teams joined the ACHA Division II in order to compete with more university and colleges and vie for the ACHA National Tournament.

The purpose of the ACHA is to support quality, unity and regulation of four-year intercollegiate hockey programs nationwide. In order to do this, the ACHA has developed organization Byaws, as well as a Policies and Procedures Manual, to provide the policy foundation for the organization as it works to fulfill its purpose. These documents are reviewed yearly at the ACHA's annual meeting.

The ACHA's policies cover team and player eligibility, rules of play, ranking procedures, national tournament procedures, and other administrative issues.

The ACHA holds its annual meeting in conjunction with the annual convention of the American Hockey Coaches Association, in the month of April in Naples, Florida.

The American Collegiate Hockey Association is a chartered non-profit corporation.  It is classified as a 501(c)(3) organization with the Internal Revenue Service.

From the ACHA Policies and Procedures Manual:

I.  STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) is an organization of College/University affiliate programs which provides structure, regulates operations and promotes the quality of collegiate ice hockey.

II.  MISSION STATEMENT

The ACHA's primary mission is to support the growth of four-year collegiate hockey programs nationwide.  The ACHA identifies standards which serve to unite and regulate teams at the collegiate level.

The ACHA shall emphasize academic performance, institutional sanction, eligibility criteria, standards of play and opportunities for national competition.

The ACHA promotes all aspects of collegiate hockey stressing the personal development of individual athletes as well as national recognition for member organizations.

USA HOCKEY

www.usahockey.com

USA Hockey provides player and team insurance to member teams, and provides grants to ACHA division to help offset the cost of the national tournaments. The ACHA and USA Hockey continue to develop their relationship in many ways.

All PAC 8 teams, which are also ACHA members, are required to register with USA Hockey, even if their school would normally cover the team's insurance needs.
Only officials sanctioned by USA Hockey, NCAA, NFHS or NIHOA should be utilized for all games, abiding by on-ice NCAA rules.

American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA)

www.ahcahockey.org

The ACHA has teamed up with the American Hockey Coaches Association (ACHA), a varsity college hockey coaches association, to extend its membership to ACHA coaches and teams.

In this exciting partnership that began in the 1999-2000 season, all ACHA member teams are also enrolled in the AHCA; the annual membership fee is included in each teams' ACHA dues.  Coaches receive the AHCA's newsletter magazine, 'Stops and Starts,' and are invited to the annual AHCA convention at the end of April where coaches attend association, division, and conference meetings, as well as vendor shows, X's & O's breakout sessions, a Coaches Banquet, golf touranment, and more.  It is because of this partnership that the ACHA annual meeting is now held concurrently with the AHCA convention in Naples, Florida.
